and closes at 9:30 a.m. Shortly after 7 a.m., the company said it had begun fueling both the booster and upper stage Starship for today’s test flight. The California-based private space company successfully flew its reusable Starship vehicle to an altitude of 6 miles in 2021, while earlier tests ended in fiery crashes that sent debris into the federally protected wetlands, tidal flats, coastal prairie and sand dunes that surround the launch site.
But today’s launch would be the first with the 164-foot-tall Starship stacked on top of the 225-foot-tall Super Heavy booster. It’s capable of pushing between 100 and 150 tons into low-Earth orbit, which should help bring down the cost of accessing space.A Starship test flight was scrubbed with just minutes left in the countdown after a problem cropped up during fueling of its Super Heavy booster and Starship spacecraft on the launch pad in Boca Chica. It was an outcome he teased a day earlier.
