Although Andor is one of Star Wars' best live-action series, Rogue One had another potential spin-off that would have been incredibly entertaining.
Although Andor has become one of the best Star Wars live-action shows to date, it can be argued that Rogue One: A Star Wars Story had another spin-off tale that would have been even better with the blind warrior monk Chirrut Îmwe. Played by Donnie Yen, Chirrut and his partner Baze Malbus were both Guardians of the Whills before the Empire's takeover of the Holy City of Jedha. As such, a spin-off show revealing their adventures together would have been very compelling.
SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY SCROLL TO CONTINUE WITH CONTENT The Guardians of the Whills were a religious sect of warrior monks who guarded Jedha's Temple of the Kyber. Although they weren't Force sensitive like the Jedi, they did believe in the Force and its influence over the galaxy, seeing themselves as its dedicated servants.
Star Wars Needed A Chirrut and Baze Series As seen in Rogue One, Chirrut and Baze were mercenaries on Jedha after they no longer had a temple to guard. While Baze was once one the Guardians' most devoted members, the Imperial takeover made him cynical and jaded. However, Chirrut never lost his faith and strove to keep listening to the Force's will, for himself and those around him.
While Andor's first season was incredibly successful, a lot of that success came from showcasing the state of the galaxy at large using other characters and plots which deviated beyond Cassian Andor and his journey to joining the Rebellion. In comparison, it's easy to argue that a blind warrior monk relentlessly dedicated to the will of the Force is the character who'd be more worthy of a spin-off.
A Guardians of The Whills Series Is Harder Now While a Guardians of the Whills series might have worked a few years ago, it would likely be more challenging now with Andor preparing for a second season and the bulk of Star Wars' shows being set after Return of the Jedi. Likewise, Donnie Yen now has a potential future playing the blind assassin Caine after debuting in John Wick 4.
