The Clone Wars’ Ahsoka Tano is one of the franchise's most beloved characters, yet Star Wars made a mistake bringing her back so many times.

Star Wars has brought Ahsoka Tano back from a definitive ending a few times now, which has become a problem. From a Padawan whose very existence was a massive Star Wars retcon to a beloved character whose legacy is now comparable to that of decades-old heroes, Ahsoka’s Star Wars journey surprisingly transcended her original purpose.

From the moment Kanan Jarrus revealed himself as a Jedi and started training Ezra Bridger in the ways of the Force, Star Wars Rebels set itself a huge challenge regarding the Star Wars timeline. According to Yoda on his deathbed in Return of the Jedi, Luke Skywalker would be the last Jedi. Not only that, but during the original Star Wars trilogy, there was no indication of other Jedi who could have come to the rescue – Luke was the one and only new hope.

Rebels season 4 added a twist on time travel into Star Wars, with Ezra removing Ahsoka from Malachor, and therefore saving her from Darth Vader. While Star Wars Rebels’ time travel plot was essentially a closed loop, it established that Ahsoka had survived the events of “Twilight of the Apprentice.” Ahsoka later returned in the Rebels epilogue, which takes place sometime after Return of the Jedi, meaning that she was alive during the events of the original trilogy.

There seemed to be no differentiation between what Luke Skywalker and Ahsoka Tano believed in terms of what it means to be a Jedi, which is an inconsistency. Whereas Ahsoka was trained her entire life to follow a strict set of rules and spent most of her Jedi journey as a soldier during The Clone Wars, Luke was guided by Obi-Wan and Yoda on a more philosophical level to stop Darth Vader and the Emperor without any books or set of rules.
