St. Joseph's University explores selling or leasing its former University of the Sciences campus in Philadelphia. The university plans to keep graduate health programs but seeks to enhance amenities and address debt.

The University of the Arts isn't the only college in Philadelphia exploring the sale of its assets. St. Joseph's University is also considering selling or leasing some or all of its former University of the Sciences campus, acquired in 2022 as part of a merger. While St. Joe's intends to retain its health professional graduate programs on the University City campus and lease back buildings if needed, the university is looking to enhance the site's amenities, potentially adding a cafe.

Among the properties up for sale are a six-story former residence hall, a two-story administration building, a storage facility, and the former library, athletic center, student center, and three-story science and technology center. Some properties hold historic designations.Interest has been expressed by both educational entities and other potential buyers, given the campus's prime location near both the University of Pennsylvania and Drexel University, and within a highly desirable residential neighborhood. St. Joe's has engaged in discussions with community leaders and Councilmember Jamie Gauthier, whose district encompasses the campus, outlining their vision for the site. Gauthier has stressed the importance of selecting a buyer that aligns with the community's vision and needs. St. Joe's initially envisioned maintaining both campuses but shifted its focus after the merger, announcing plans to relocate undergraduate programs to its main Hawk Hill campus. This move, according to President Cheryl A. McConnell, aimed to foster a stronger sense of community among undergraduate students. The University City campus would continue to serve as a hub for graduate health-related research and programs, such as occupational therapy, physical therapy, physician assistant, and pharmaceutics. St. Joe's anticipates using proceeds from any sale or lease to address USciences' outstanding debt of $170 million and bolster its endowment. They also plan to invest in new construction on their main campus, including a residence hall, student center, academic buildings, a parking garage, and potentially a science center, through a proposed $200 million bond issuance
