Juan Núñez, the talented young European point guard the Spurs drafted at the start of the second round of the 2024 NBA Draft, has been introduced by the Barcelona-based professional basketball team where he will spend the upcoming season.
“It is a big step for me,” said Nuñez. “I went to Germany intending to return to play in the Euroleague and to compete for titles and it turned out well. These two years have been very good for me to be able to play and learn to make decisions. Honestly, I’ve grown a lot as a player. I come at a good point of maturity and I’m ready for the next step.”
Sergio Scariolo, the famed Spanish team’s head coach, announced that Núñez's recent absences during exhibition matches have been due in part to the reintegration of players returning from injuries. Interestingly, one of those players is Juancho Hernangómez - who briefly played in San Antonio for the Spurs during the 2021-2022 NBA season.
After he was selected, Spurs G.M. Brian Wright described Nuñez as, "Probably the best pick-and-roll player in the draft as a passer. He's tough. He's got moxie. He's competitive and he's a winner."
