Before his Spurs faced the Rockets, Popovich threw some cold water on the notion that the NBA's worst defensive unit has tightened up:"It’s two games out of a million. I wouldn’t jump on anything." Playing without Keldon Johnson, Devin Vassell, Doug McDermott and Malakai Branham, the Spurs defense regressed against Houston as they fell 122-110.
The Spurs gave up 74 points in the paint and 30 points in transition in the loss. San Antonio did hit 11 of its first 19 from 3-point range – including 5 of 6 from Devonte Graham in the early going. They just couldn’t keep it up.Zach Collins added 14 for the Spurs as did Jeremy Sochan and Charles Bassey, who also added eight rebounds.The two teams will meet again Sunday night in Houston as the two teams continue to battle for the worst record in the NBA.
