Popular forward Sandro Mamukelashvili has agreed to return to the San Antonio Spurs on a one-year deal.
Mamu is not going anywhere. The Spurs have reached an agreement to bring fan favorite Sandro Mamu kelashvili back on a one-year, $2.2 million contract, his agents Mark Bartelstein and George Roussakis confirmed Tuesday.
The 25-year-old forward was a restricted free agent after appearing in 65 games across the past two seasons with the Spurs. He averaged 6.1 points and 4.2 rebounds in those contests. One of those fans Mamukelashvili earned was Spurs coach Gregg Popovich. SPURS INSIDER PODCAST: A new-look lineup around Wemby “He’s like my favorite player,” Popovich said in April. 'He's European,' Popovich added, 'which makes me love him right off the bat because I think those guys are unbelievably well-coached and overall understand the game better than most of us here.' It turns out the Spurs would need not lose Mamukelashvili to the offseason salary cap machinations that brought veterans Chris Paul and Harrison Barnes to town. Back in the fold, Mamukelashvili is expected to continue to supply depth to the Spurs' front court. His return brings the Spurs' main roster to 14, one under the maximum the team is allowed to carry into the regular season. The Spurs also have two of their three allotted two-way spots available.
