SAN ANTONIO - Spurs rookie guard Blake Wesley will be sidelined for the next six to eight weeks after suffering a left knee injury Sunday night, a league source confirmed to the Express-News.
Citing a source close to Wesley, NDinsider.com, which covers his alma mater, Notre Dame, was the first to report Wesley would be out for an extended period after suffering a torn medial collateral ligament during the second quarter of theWesley, who the Spurs selected 25th overall in the June draft, went down after he bumped knees with Timberwolves forward Jaden McDaniels while cutting through the lane.
After shooting free throws, Wesley was on the court for Minnesota's ensuing possession before the Spurs called timeout and he limped to the trainer's room, where he was ruled out for the rest of the game. X-rays performed at the AT&T Center were negative. An MRI performed Monday revealed the torn ligament.
After the abrupt waiving of Josh Primo, Wesley made his NBA debut Friday night, finishing with 10 points and four assists in 15 minutes off the bench in a win over Chicago."He’s fearless," Spurs coach Gregg Popovich said of Wesley."It didn’t faze him at all. He took shots, he drove it and he and Jeremy both learned about how you guard a great player like DeMar without fouling, because they foul and they are learning how not to do that.
