Michael King not sharp again, Jason Adam not sharp for first time this spring

Two of the homers, including Monday’s off Tony Santillan, have come against relievers with extensive major league experience. Sheets finished 1-for-3 and has four hits in his past 16 at-bats after starting the spring 2-for-15. … Fernando Tatis Jr. homered off All-Star Hunter Greene. Tatis’s first homer of the spring gave him three hits and two walks in his past nine plate appearances. … Xander Bogaerts was 1-for-2 and is 3-for-10 in his past five games after starting the spring 1-for-6. … Brandon Lockridge, who is trying to make the opening-day roster as an extra outfielder, was 1-for-1 and has hit safely in six of the past seven games. He is 6-for-14 in that span. … Jake Cronenworth doubled down the right-field line. It was just his third hit in 18 at-bats, but the 103 mph liner was the seventh ball he has put in play at 95 mph or harder among the 12 balls he has put in play this spring. … Poway High School and USD product Connor Joe, in camp trying to make the team as an extra outfielder and first baseman, improved his on-base percentage to .458 with his fifth walk of the spring. … Infielder Jose Iglesias, who signed a minor-league deal on Wednesday, went 0-for-2 in his second game.Michael King struggled with his fastball command for a second start. He walked three and allowed three hits and three runs. … Jason Adam entered Monday having thrown four perfect innings and allowed his first two hits , first two runs and first walk of the spring in two-thirds of an inning. … Hard-throwing Bradgley Rodriguez, who has been one of the highlights of camp, also allowed his first two runs after coming into the day having thrown three scoreless innings. He surrendered four hits. … Left-hander Wes Benjamin, signed late last month after a season pitching in the KBO, pitched two scoreless innings. … Juan Nuñez, the right-hander the Padres selected in the Rule 5 draft, gave up two runs for the second time in his two appearances this spring. Nuñez would need to be on the big-league roster at the start of the season or offered back to the Orioles, who would then refund half the $100,000 fee the Padres paid to select Nuñez.The Padres’ catchers do not have a sustained track record of offensive excellence, and they are batting a collective 7-for-55 in spring training. But they have demonstrated an ability to help control the running game. The latest example was a quick release and throw by Elías Díaz to nab Elly De La Cruz trying to steal second base on Monday.
