) - Spring Hill officially broke ground Thursday on its new $36 million center. Named the Annette N. Shelby Health and Science Innovative Center after the professor and philanthropist. The 57 thousand square foot facility will be home to nursing, pre-med, health sciences, and natural sciences programs.
“We have incredible students who already do fantastic. For them to have an actual state of the art building, brand new labs, anatomage tables, simulation space. The sky is the limit now on what they’ll be able to do. We’re just excited to be part of the workforce solution for the shortages in health care and nursing. We’re just beyond excited for this,” President Dr. Mary Van Brunt said.“Everybody is fired up. It’s amazing to see progress right in front of your eyes and just greatness awaiting for Spring Hill. I have so many friends who are pre-med and science. My roommate for the last few years is pre-med, so he’s very excited for the future of the students who are coming in,” SGA President Walker Carlisle said. The college has already started the process by demolishing Walsh Hall to make way for the new building. “When they left in May, Walsh Hall was still standing. And when they came back, it was gone. So, they’re seeing the progress. And the steel starts in a couple of weeks. We’re going to start going vertical, and then it’s going to be pretty quick. So, they’re excited. I was talking to some nursing students who were seniors. And they were saying I can’t believe we’re not going to be here, but we’re going to come back,” Dr. Van Brunt said.Parents arrested for murder in case of missing 7-month-old Emmanuel Haro, officials say2 dead after eating oysters, contracting flesh-eating bacteria, officials say
