Forecasters say average seasonal temperatures are not likely to return until a week from Saturday.

Spring begins on Friday. But it’ll feel like summer as a lingering heat wave produces another day of record high temperatures across San Diego County, the National Weather Service says. The wind will turn onshore Saturday, lowering the daytime high at the coast by 4 to 8 degrees.

But temperatures will tick up again Sunday, and it will remain unseasonably warm through Thursday, when the warm spell hits the two-week mark. Several San Diego County communities broke daily heat records Thursday, including Escondido , Ramona and Alpine . Borrego Springs clocked in at 105 degrees, blasting past its previous record of 95 degrees set in 2017. San Diego’s seasonal high this time of year is 67. But forecasters say the temperature will reach 86 on Friday, 81 on Saturday, 78 on Sunday and Monday, 79 on Tuesday and Wednesday, and 78 on Thursday, when the Padres begin the baseball season at home against Detroit. Friday’s projected highs are even toastier countywide. Forecasters say the temperature will reach 109 in Ocotillo Wells, 105 in Borrego Springs, 98 in El Cajon, 97 in Escondido and Ramona, 96 in Alpine, 92 in Mira Mesa, 89 in Julian, 88 in San Ysidro, 86 in Oceanside and 85 in Mount Laguna. The lack of strong coastal winds during the heat wave is making it easier to see dolphins on the San Diego coast line. The warm weather will please some people, notably those who will file into The Rady Shell on San Diego Bay Friday night to watch the rock band Foreigner perform, starting at 7:30 p.m. It’s not unusual for the site to have very cool evening weather this time of year. It’s also common for wild rain showers to occur in mid-March. But skies will be mostly clear Saturday when Little League games get underway across the county. The extended heat wave has also caused coastal waters to rise as high as 65 degrees, a plus for swimmers and surfers. Fewer people are riding the San Diego trolley.
