SpiderManAcrossTheSpiderVerse star Luna Lauren Vélez discusses how Miles Morales struggles with keeping secrets from his parents:

Luna Lauren Vélez explains how keeping secrets from his parents is impacting Miles Morales in Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse. In Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse, Miles Morals becomes the new Spider-Man of his Earth and discovers that his uncle is Prowler, a dangerous henchman working for Kingpin. These have huge effects on his life, but Miles is keeping them both secrets from his parents.

In an exclusive interview with Screen Rant about Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse, Vélez discussed how much Miles is carrying on his shoulders. She teased how the secret of his uncle weighs on him, especially keeping it from his father. Vélez also touched on how much Miles has been shaped by his uncle. Check out Vélez's full quote and interview below:

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY SCROLL TO CONTINUE WITH CONTENT Luna Lauren Vélez: He's carrying the secret that he can't share with his father about what he knows to be true about his uncle, who in some way in the first one helped sort of shape him. And now he's got this, on top of everything else. He's got the weight of the world on his shoulders.

How Miles' Backstory Makes Him A Different Hero From Peter In Across The Spider-Verse Miles Morales has key differences from Peter Parker in both how he grew up and his origin as Spider-Man. Peter Parker lost both his parents and his uncle, propelling him into becoming a hero. Peter Parker also had to figure out how to be Spider-Man on his own after being motivated to fully step into the role of hero by his Uncle Ben.

Miles Morales being mentored by other heroes will likely play into his storyline in Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse. He learned what it means to be Spider-Man first from the Peter Parker of his Earth, then from Peter B. Parker, Gwen Stacy, and the other Spider-heroes who were stuck on his Earth. Unlike most of the heroes, who learned by trial and error and the creed that Uncle Ben instilled in them, he learned by example.
