After years of chatter about renaming its company town on the Gulf Coast , Elon Musk ’s SpaceX is requesting a county election to consider incorporation of its Starbase development near Boca Chica Beach . In a letter Thursday to Cameron County Judge Eddie Treviño Jr., Starbase General Manager Kathryn Lueders requested the election to “determine whether Starbase , Texas , should be incorporated as a city.

Lueders noted that because of the remote location, the company is providing civil functions such as managing roads and utilities, schooling and medical care. “Incorporation would move the management of some of these functions to a more appropriate public body,” she wrote.
