Sotomayor girls basketball takes control of District 28-6A race after defeating Brennan
Sotomayor ’s third year program is in a position it’s never been before – the team to beat. The Wildcats showed that Wednesday night as they toppled two-time reigning district champion for a second time this season, 60-50, at Harlan District Gym . Sotomayor , ranked No. 9 by the Express-News , improved to 18-8 overall and 8-1 in District 28-6A. Tenth-ranked Brennan dropped to second at 7-2. They are ahead of Warren and O’Connor who are tied at 6-3.
That ended a 35-game district winning streak for the Bears, who advanced to the UIL state semifinals last year. Brennan is rebuilding with Flemings – one of the nation’s top recruits – as the only returner from last year. The Bears have shown resiliency following a 4-7 start. Since losing against Sotomayor the first time, Brennan won seven district games in a row by an average of 37.7 points. The most notable result occurred on Jan. 3 when the Bears defeated Warren 70-49.
