Chris Zylka yelling with arms outstretched in Amazing Spider-Man

Spider-Man is back on fans' minds as Spider-Man: Brand New Day is just months away from its theatrical release. Since Marvel Studios dropped the first trailer, it has already shattered major milestones, proving just how eager audiences are to see the web-slinger return to action.

But the excitement isn't limited to just the trailer. Earlier Spider-Man films are also experiencing a surge in streaming, as anticipation builds for the film's July debut. Spider-Man's story has been told countless times across various forms of media, from his origins in comic books to TV shows, films, video games, and even memes. In Hollywood, however, this franchise is in a unique position. While Marvel Studios includes Spider-Man in the MCU, the film rights are shared with Sony Pictures, meaning the character and his wider universe are shared between the two studios. Because of this, Sony has also developed its own Spider-Man-related projects outside the MCU, which have seen mixed reactions from audiences, and one of those titles has recently surged in streaming. The Amazing Spider-Man, starring Andrew Garfield as Peter Parker, has recently surged on HBO Max's Top 10 Movies in the U.S, sitting at number 10, surprisingly under Sam Raimi's Spider-Man 2. This 2012 feature was a second attempt to retell Spider-Man's story through film, released just five years after Raimi's Spider-Man 3. While The Amazing Spider-Man generated over $757 million at the box office and earned praise from fans and critics alike, this adaptation was divisive amongst fans — some called out the Parkers' backstory in how it was too familiar and how it tackled Uncle Ben — and there was debate on whether it was the"worst Spider-Man film" released. Garfield's Spider-Man eventually returned in a sequel called The Amazing Spider-Man 2, and later for a cameo in Spider-Man: No Way Home, thus making him part of the MCU.
