Anchorage will close the summer just outside the top-five wettest on record.

ANCHORAGE, Alaska - It’s been a wet month across the state, as numerous storms sweep across Alaska. As the month draws to a close, we’re seeing the rainy weather shift to the Gulf of Alaska.Soaking rains built into Southcentral yesterday afternoon and evening, as winds died off. While winds won’t be a concern today, we will spend most of the day on the wetter side. So far this morning light rain showers have already led to southern parts of the Kenai seeing over a quarter of an inch of rain.

Rain showers will linger through Prince William Sound tomorrow, but much of Southcentral will be on the drier and sunnier side. We’ll see dry weather linger to close out the week, with showers returning into the weekend.Wetter and windier weather is returning to Southeast with some of the heaviest rainfall falling through the central Panhandle north towards Skagway. Such locations could see 1 to 3 inches of rain through Friday morning.

In addition to the rains, winds will sweep through Southeast today and into early tomorrow, with gusts upwards of 35 mph possible. Some spotty to isolated showers remain in the forecast across the Interior for the next few days. While it’s nothing to write home about, any rain will add to what has already been a wet summer.
