Seasonal weather remains for the foreseeable future, with more rain likely into the weekend. This comes as a low near the Aleutians sweeps eastward through the Gulf of Alaska. We’ll see more clouds than the sun today, with a better chance for rain into the weekend.
A moderate drought continues growing through Southeast, with the incoming rain this weekend helping saturate some soil. This will be good news, as there are reports that some of the wetlands in Southeast are beginning to crack due to the dry conditions. Rain will likely continue through early next week before more dry weather moves into the region.Rain showers will remain with the Interior as the week draws to a close.
While the high surf and coastal flooding is no longer a concern for Western Alaska, the rainy and breezy conditions will continue. Winds today will be significantly lower, only gusting to about 25 mph. With additional rain in the forecast, you’ll still want to be prepared for high waters along many area waterways. While some dry time can be expected over the next few days, the overall pattern continues to favor stormier conditions.
Brief ridging will arrive through the first part of the weekend, before another storm begins to affect Shemya and Adak as early as Saturday night. Not much change in the overall outlook, as fall weather slowly spreads across the state. We’ll continue to hold onto above-average rainfall chances for much of the state, although there are signs Southeast will see another dry spell.
