A fatal avalanche in Rich County, Utah claimed the life of 37-year-old Scott Wright from Evanston, Wyoming. Authorities are reminding the public of the importance of avalanche safety gear and closely monitoring forecasts from the Utah Avalanche Center as a storm is predicted to increase avalanche danger.

Scott Wright, 37, from Evanston, Wyoming was killed while snowmobiling with another person in the Monte Cristo area on Monday.Snowmobiler found dead after avalanche in Monte Cristo area of Northern Utah Sargent said if you plan to go into the back country, motorized or not, make sure to take a beacon, probe and shovel at the bare minimum.“Utah Avalanche Center is one of, if not the best, forecast centers in the entire country,” he said.

"If we're going to get a lot of snow this weekend, anywhere from an inch or two of water, and then likely wind seems to accompany these storms, we're going to see avalanche danger rise,” Champion said.
