A search and rescue operation was underway in the Monte Cristo area near Huntsville after an avalanche. One person was flown to a hospital, the condition of which was not immediately known.
One person was flown to a hospital in Rich County after an avalanche in the Monte Cristo area Monday evening, sheriff's officials said. Crews had been searching for a snowmobiler who was buried by the avalanche. It is unclear if the person flown to a hospital was the snowmobiler or another person. Crews remained on scene late into the evening. The condition of the person flown to a hospital was not immediately released.
The Utah Avalanche Center confirmed in a social media post that an avalanche had occurred in the area and that the search was being conducted east of Huntsville
