As of Friday, at least 15 other cases have been either confirmed or labeled as probable in Washington.
The monkeypox virus spreads through close physical contact, including sexual contact. Higher-risk individuals include homosexual men, people with multiple partners and people that travel to areas where monkeypox is spreading more freely.
Symptoms include a rash that could appear anywhere on the body, flu-like symptoms and swollen lymph nodes. The current outbreak could include lesions in the genital or anal area. The latest individual in Snohomish County is an adult male, and the health department is working to contact other people he may have had contact with.
On Saturday, the Tacoma-Pierce County Health Department announced they were investigating their first probable case of monkeypox.
