Denton County reported its first monkeypox case Saturday, just three days after theThe case is considered a presumptive positive until the federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention confirms the rest result, but Denton County’s health department said the patient was symptomatic and had contact with someone who had a confirmed case.

Health officials are working to identify people who had direct contact with the patient. They did not release any additional identifying information about the patient to protect confidentiality.“While there is minimal known risk to the general public at this time, we are working with our partners at the local, state, and federal level to respond to the recent outbreak of monkeypox in the U.S.,” Denton County Public Health Director Matt Richardson said in a written statement.
