SMU is well-rested and coming off three consecutive wins while Stanford has lost its last three games, including two against AP-top 25 teams .The Mustangs sit at 2-0 in ACC play after taking down the conference’s reigning champion and No. 22 Louisville for their first ranked win of the year.A victory this week comes with some added stakes, as it would make SMU bowl eligible for the sixth consecutive year.
SMU should also be healthier than it was when it last took the field, benefitting from the bye and returning running back LJ Johnson Jr. in a full capacity. He, Brashard Smith and Roderick Daniels Jr. now make up a running back room that few teams have had an answer for.Stanford has scored just 28 combined points in its last three games and could struggle to keep up with SMU’s offense, which averaged 47.3 points over its last three games.
His top target is Aymanor, who had over 1,000 yards receiving in his freshman season last year. Through half of this year, he has 27 catches for 333 yards and three touchdowns, averaging 12.3 yards per reception.SMU is the better team on paper and based on resume, but the Mustangs need to give Stanford as much attention as any other opponent.
