SMU is gearing up for its first ACC football game against Florida State this weekend, hoping to prove it's ready to compete.

“I think everywhere but in our locker room it’s as high as can be,” Lashlee said. “We don’t talk about it a lot. We can’t get sucked into all that.”, history will be made for a program that’s spent nearly 40 years trying to get back to an elite status as a power conference team after suffering the NCAA’s death penalty in 1987.
“They’re forever the answer to a trivia question,” SMU athletic director Rick Hart said. “Any time it’s the first fill in the blank, it’s special, and it adds to the excitement that you would have anyway if you’re hosting Florida State at Ford Stadium. But you only get to play the first game once, and I think that will have a lot of significance, not just for me, but for our alumni, our donors and the entire community.”But getting to the ACC debut was only a first step.
