Anyway. Prying Payton from TV and plucking him from New Orleans would be the biggest franchise changer for the Texans since … they drafted J.J. Watt?If Payton somehow agreed to take over a rebuilding franchise loaded with salary-cap space and draft picks, the Texans would instantly become national news, consistently buzzworthy and make McNair a lot more money.
But the Texans need to be in this flashy rodeo and simply having the conversation can help move the franchise forward.There's no way he's rolling with Davis Mills in 2023, I promise you that right now. If Jonathan Gannon, Shane Steichen or Ben Johnson guide the 10-7 Texans to the playoffs in a couple years, the day that Houston’s NFL team was briefly connected with Payton will be forgotten.
