Tyrese Maxey and Quentin Grimes have a familiar history, dating back to their high school days in Texas. Maxey believes Grimes's shooting and defensive skills will be a valuable asset to the Philadelphia 76ers.
Tyrese Maxey has a history with the Sixers' newest acquisition, Quentin Grimes , dating back to their high school days in Texas . Both players earned the prestigious Texas Mr. Basketball title during their senior years. Maxey, who played at South Garland High School, and Grimes, from The Woodlands College Park High School, were both McDonald's All-Americans. While Maxey has become an NBA All-Star and a key figure for the Sixers, Grimes has seen a journey through four teams in as many seasons.
Maxey believes Grimes has adapted well to the NBA, evolving from a high-scoring player in high school and college to a versatile role player who excels both offensively and defensively. Grimes' shooting prowess is particularly noteworthy, as he's boasting a career-best 39.8% three-point shooting percentage this season. Grimes' journey through the NBA has been marked by several trades. Drafted 25th by the Los Angeles Clippers in 2021, he was immediately traded to the New York Knicks. He spent 2 ½ seasons with the Knicks before being dealt to the Detroit Pistons in February 2024, along with other players. The Pistons then traded him to the Dallas Mavericks in July 2024. His impressive performance with the Mavericks this season, averaging 10.2 points, 3.8 rebounds, and 2.1 assists in 47 games, highlights his ability to contribute significantly to a team. Maxey is confident that Grimes will seamlessly integrate into the Sixers' system. He recognizes the loss of Caleb Martin's contributions but sees Grimes as a valuable addition who can fill the gap with his shooting and defensive abilities
