Six Flags Great Adventure began building its newest roller coaster on Wednesday, which will be a “multi-world-record-breaking launch roller coaster.'

Kingda Ka, which debuted in 2005. was the fastest and tallest roller coaster in the world, and a favorite among thrill-seekers. It would take guests 45 stories in the air and launch from zero to 128 miles per hour in mere seconds.

The name and layout of the new attraction has yet to be announced, but park officials said they were building the new ride after they announced the demolition of Kingda Ka, as well as another coaster, Green Lantern.Six Flags Great Adventure's Kingda Ka is no more after the iconic roller coaster was imploded on Feb. 28, 2025. News12 New Jersey captured the moment it came down.Six Flags Great Adventure also has several smaller new additions debuting in 2026. The park’s “Safari Off-Road Adventure” will return to being included in the price of admission. Visitors will board safari vehicles directly from a dedicated in-park loading station, just as they did before 2020, when the Safari returned to a drive through attraction. For this year’s season, Great Adventure officials also said that there will be expanded live entertainment, dining upgrades and major track improvements to its signature “El Toro” wooden roller coaster. The theme park is set to open on Saturday, March 28, for the 2026 season.
