A West Valley home is partially destroyed after police said a box truck went through the closed garage door.
A box truck on Thursday, May 23, 2024, crashed into a West Valley City home, leaving a large crack in the structure that stretched from the foundation to the roof.
Investigators identified the man as 36-year-old Matthew Darren Hammick. According to the police report, Hammick had a prior felony DUI conviction and was driving without a valid license at the time of the incident.Janet Wright said, "It was just astounding. I had to take a gasp." "It's sad that people can be so irresponsible because it's one thing to ruin your own vehicle or to damage your own property," Kevin said. "But when you start damaging other people's property, that becomes pretty serious."
"That's a lot of damage," Kevin said. "There's wall damage there. There's garage damage, structural damage. So obviously, it's going to cost a little bit to get that fixed. And we just hope that he had insurance, even if his license was revoked."
