Jason Segel's new show, Shrinking, offers a compelling blend of comedy and drama that resonates with fans of How I Met Your Mother.
It's been over a decade since How I Met Your Mother came to an end, and though nothing will take its place, Jason Segel 's Shrinking is worth considering as a replacement show. Segel portrayed Marshall Eriksen for all nine seasons of How I Met Your Mother before the show concluded in 2014. The actor continued working on TV projects, including key roles in Dispatches from Elsewhere and Winning Time, but his next starring role came in the form of Apple TV+'s Shrinking.
In it, Segel plays a therapist named Jimmy who questions his own practices while dealing with the immense grief after his wife's unexpected death. That might sound too joyous, but Shrinking's cast helps balance out the comedic elements of the show while not burying the significant themes of the show. Speaking of themes, Shrinking has plenty to offer that would resonate with How I Met Your Mother fans, including those who still want to forget HIMYM's divisive ending. It also doesn't hurt having Harrison Ford counter Segel's character. Apple TV+ has already renewed Shrinking for season 3.
