Supermarket shoppers warned stores are using special baskets to make them spend more
A psychologist has warned supermarket shoppers to think very carefully about the type of basket they use to do their shopping. She says major supermarket chains are using special baskets in stores which can make you spend considerably more than you would have done with a traditional basket.
She's warned against picking up baskets on wheels you'll find at the front doors of supermarkets if you're trying to cut your grocery bill. Instead, opt for a basket closer to the till."People used to find that if they put too much in a basket that you hold they got too heavy and that was a sign they should stop shopping, as they couldn't carry it," she told The Mirror. "That's why you often see the baskets on wheels these days.
"So when you're trying to save money, using one of these baskets is not necessarily a good thing to do, because you do tend to fill them up." "If you want the smaller one you have to walk all the way round to get it, so it's usually just easier to grab the bigger one when you walk through as it's near the door."
