Patterson was the first Black woman to be ordained in the North Texas region of the United Methodist Church. She was first ordained as a deacon 35 years ago and went on to become a senior pastor at area churches, including St. Paul UMC and Jubilee UMC. Most recently, she has served as the senior pastor at Hamilton Park UMC.Dallas County Commissioner John Wiley Price gave an address Sunday celebrating Patterson and read messages honoring her from several politicians. Members of the Afro Park Community at the church also presented Patterson and her husband with awards and a check of $500 for their upcoming trip.In addition to her work as a pastor and with the UMC, she is also known for media and service work. Patterson has written nine books, served as a KNRB radio host and will continue to appear as a relationship expert on WFAA’s “Good Morning Texas.
