A grieving family and San Jose police officers are trying to understand the circumstances surrounding a woman’s death after her body was found in a South Bay landfill earlier this month.

The woman was identified as 34-year-old LaToya Renee Covington, the Santa Clara County coroner’s office told SFGATE. She did not have a reported place of residence, the office said. San Jose police said they responded to the “suspicious death” at the Newby Island Recovery Center, at 1601 Dixon Landing Road in Milpitas, on June 2 around 6 a.m., after employees discovered the body during processing operations.according to a GoFundMe page.The cause of Covington’s death is under investigation and awaiting medical examination from the coroner’s office, the San Jose Police Department said. Covington’s family, though, alleges that the mother of three was murdered.
