A line of strong storms is expected to move through the Houston area Thursday afternoon, bringing a risk of heavy rain, damaging winds, hail, and even a brief isolated tornado. The storms will move out by early evening, leaving behind dry, sunny weather for the weekend. Temperatures will be comfortable, reaching the mid-70s by Sunday.

Thursday is a FOX 26 Storm Alert Day. There is a chance for heavy rain, damaging wind gusts, hail, and a brief isolated tornado. A line of storms will move into the northwestern viewing area late morning and clear off the coast by 7 p.m. Houston begins the day with low-hanging clouds and warm temperatures. A cold front will sweep across Southeast Texas this afternoon, bringing the threat for some stronger storms to pulse up.

The highest chance for severe storms will mainly be the northeastern viewing area. Stay aware of the threat of heavy rain, damaging wind gusts, hail, and a brief isolated tornado. Once the cold front clears to the east of Southeast Texas, you can expect dry, clear, and comfortable weather to return this weekend. Highs on Friday will be in the upper-60s to near 70 degrees. Sunday is Groundhogs Day and Houston will see plentiful sunshine with highs in the mid-70s. Temperatures will soar to the mid and upper-70s next week with mostly dry skies. Our temperatures will stay above average through the first several days of February and only low-end rain chances return by the middle of the week.Download the free FOX Local app on your phone and smart TV to stay up-to-date on the latest weather where you live
