The areas in orange have the highest risk and could see a strong tornado.The National Weather Service continues to monitor the threat for strong to severe storms in Alabama today, Saturday and Sunday.
Isolated severe storms will be possible today and Sunday, but Saturday will feature the highest risk for storms the state has seen in a while. And Saturday’s stronger storms could affect parts of the state during the overnight hours (Saturday into Sunday), so it’s important to make sure your method of getting weather warnings is up to date. On Saturday part of west Alabama will have a Level 3 out of 5 risk for severe weather, also called an enhanced risk. An enhanced risk means that numerous severe storms will be possible, including a strong (EF2+) tornado. The enhanced risk area in Alabama has grown some since yesterday’s update. A larger area in west and central Alabama will have a Level 2 (slight) risk for severe weather on Saturday, which means that scattered severe storms will be possible. All of the rest of the state will have a Level 1 (marginal) risk on Saturday, which means that isolated severe storms will be possible.Rain and storms will be possible across all of Alabama today, but the areas in dark green could get an isolated severe storm.Today the focus for any stronger storms to form will be in south and west Alabama. The Storm Prediction Center has a Level 1 out of 5 (marginal) risk for areas including Mobile, Greenville and as far north as Tuscaloosa (although severe storms are not as likely there).
