Severe storms tore through central Ohio overnight, bringing heavy rain, strong winds, and confirmed tornadoes.
Communities from Circleville to Grove City to Columbus saw the impacts firsthand. Downed trees, power outages, and flooded roadways were reported across the region as storms moved through. The National Weather Service has confirmed at least three tornadoes, with high winds contributing to structural damage and hazardous conditions.
Meanwhile, relentless rainfall caused water levels to surge in low-lying areas. One of the most closely watched spots was the historic Valley Dale Ballroom, where floodwaters once again crept dangerously close to the building. “You see this, this is it,” said Landa Masdea Brunetto, whose family has owned the ballroom for more than a century. “And it makes me laugh because they want to do lots of building around here, but they don't seem to realize how much it floods.” For Brunetto, flooding is nothing new. It’s a recurring challenge that comes with maintaining the iconic venue along the Scioto River. “People are used to coming here,” she said. “They know the ins and outs of Valley Dale, they know what the weather's going to be like, or what's going to happen with a rainy night. They know to push up closer to the street.”Brunetto spent much of the night monitoring rising water levels, hoping conditions wouldn’t interfere with a scheduled Friday performance. “You're here almost all night just to ward off the water,” she said. “It’s like a babysitting project watching the water.”Inside, the ballroom remains a living piece of history—its walls covered in signatures and memories from legendary performers who’ve taken its stage over the decades. “You don’t own Valley Dale, it owns you,” Brunetto said. “You’re kind of a sentinel to protect the history and keep it going.”Hidden Lakes Campground in Morrow County has what looks like the roof partially off of their mess hall facility, but it kept around 100 people safe Thursday durOSU fraternity placed on interim suspension after student hospitalized The Pi Kappa Phi fraternity at Ohio State has been placed under interim suspension following an event Wednesday that led to a student being hospitalized. An inA Marion man convicted of taking hundreds of thousands of dollars from customers for construction projects that were never finished is headed to prison.
