Central Ohio is bracing for severe weather Thursday evening into Friday morning, with a tornado watch in effect. Local law enforcement and emergency management agencies are coordinating efforts, urging residents to stay alert and prepared. One fatality was reported in a morning commute crash.
Severe weather is expected across Central Ohio Thursday into Friday morning. A tornado watch is in effect for parts of the area until 11p.m.Lt. Bryan Huddleston with the Madison County Sheriff’s Office said law enforcement is preparing for whatever the storm system may bring, even though conditions can change quickly.
“I don't know if you can because they change so much from storm to storm, and I don't know if there's any right answer to how you would prepare for a fierce storm,” Huddleston said. He said the unpredictability of severe weather makes planning difficult, but deputies are ready to respond if a crisis develops. “We work really well with our local EMA, and they keep us up to date with the National Weather Service,” Huddleston said. That communication begins at the 911 Center, where emergency officials keep track of changing conditions and coordinate response efforts from what neighbors are calling in.
