The National Weather Service has declared dire “tornado emergencies” three days in a row.
A storm-damaged building in Columbia, Tenn., on Thursday after a strong tornado hit the area Wednesday night. Tornadoes have hit the United States every day for two weeks straight. The nonstop barrage of storminess has culminated in multiple deadly tornado outbreaks — the latest on Wednesday. More dangerous storms are forecast Thursday and, once again, tornadoes will be possible.
Another tornado touched down in the greater Huntsville, Ala., area Wednesday night, devouring forests and structures as it chewed through mountainous terrain. It spurred the issuance of a tornado emergency in Henagar in northeastern Alabama. Employees of local TV station WAAY-TV wereGrapefruit-size hail also pelted Phelps County, Mo., while baseball-size hail was spotted in western North Carolina. More enormous hail is expected Thursday.
