INDEPENDENCE, Ohio - According to Independence Police, several residents on South Great Oaks Parkway reported receiving envelopes containing handwritten thank-you notes with a QR coded gift card.
Police said this is a scam and Do NOT scan any QR codes from these cards. If you do, a website with a number of links requesting you to make a purchase pop up. They are asking anyone who received one to keep the envelope and contents as evidence and drop them off at IPD.“I was mad. I felt like a breach of security,” says Dighero. “It was just in the mailbox and envelope addressed to my address and has a $500 gift card. An immediate red flag.”“I mean they have my address and they are trying to scam us, so I don’t really like that too much,” says Dighero.
