More than 200 students in grades 6-12 from across the state took part in the science fair competition Saturday. These students were competing for the top awards, including cash incentives and the opportunity to advance to the Regeneron International Science and Engineering Fair in Columbus, Ohio next month for students in grades 9-12. “There were a lot of top-notch projects this year, which definitely heated up the competition,” said Dr. Mark Dunaway, Instructional Math Specialist. “You could feel a buzz of energy from the students – and parents who attended - throughout the day."Students from Dothan City Schools won several top honors at the state science fair. Sixteen DCS projects were among those that competed in the science fair after earning top awards at the Greater East Alabama Regional Science & Engineering Fair in mid-March. In all, 25 students represented Dothan City Schools Saturday. “The school district was overjoyed to see our students compete and win awards as they competed all the way to the state science fair this past Saturday,” said Dr. Dennis Coe, Superintendent of Dothan City Schools. “Our amazing science and math teachers have provided guidance -- from inception to completion - on these projects. Everyone at Dothan City Schools is so proud of these award-winning students and we congratulate them on their achievements.”The Carver School for Mathematics Science & TechnologyThermo Fisher Innovators Award - Anne Mustin2nd Place - Parker Leggett - Robotic and Systems Communication TechnologySpecial recognition was also presented to Dothan High School science teacher, Jeanne Davis. She is one of two teachers in the state invited to the Regeneron Fair next month. Both teachers will travel with the team, helping Team Alabama compete at their best at the International Level. Davis and student winners from the district and regional fairs were recognized at the March Board of Education meeting. "This was another great year of research across the district for our students.
