A second suspect has been arrested in connection with the fatal shooting of 2-year-old Synsyr Lewis in Federal Way, Washington. The first suspect, 17-year-old Jayson Jack, was already in custody.
Synsyr Lewis was struck by a bullet after prosecutors said 17-year-old Jayson Jack fired 15 rounds into Synsyr's father's car outside a Federal Way IHOP. Synsyr later died at Harborview Medical Center. On Tuesday at around 9 a.m., Federal Way police detectives and the Alameda Police Department took a 31-year-old man into custody in conjunction with an arrest warrant for murder in the first degree.
The man's bail was set at $3 million, and he will be booked into jail in California pending extradition to Washington, according to Federal Way police. 'Continued investigations led detectives to a second suspect in this crime,' continued the media release. 'Detectives worked with law enforcement partners in Alameda, California, to locate a second suspect in this case.' On April 4 at around 9:58 a.m., Federal Way police responded to a reported shooting in the 100 block of Southwest Campus Dr (IHOP Restaurant parking lot). A few minutes later, police received a call from St. Francis Hospital reporting a 2-year-old child at the hospital with a gunshot wound, police said. The child, Synsyr Lewis, was taken to Harborview Medical Center by medics, where he ultimately passed away, according to Federal Way police. 'A team of Federal Way PD Detectives has worked tirelessly to bring justice to the victim’s family and hold the suspects accountable for their actions,' wrote Federal Way police in a media release posted on Facebook. Federal Way police said their investigation led them to identify 17-year-old Jayson Jack as a suspect in the case. Jack was 16 years old at the time of the shooting, Federal Way police noted. Synsyr's father arrived at the IHOP parking lot with his two children, 2-year-old Synsyr and an infant, on the morning of April 4 to pick up his girlfriend from work, according to charging documents released by the King County Prosecuting Attorney's Office (KCPAO)
