A suspect was arrested Tuesday afternoon in Newark following a shootout with police after allegedly shooting and killing a person. Officers responded to reports of gunshots and exchanged fire with the suspect during an attempted arrest. The shooting victim was found dead at the scene.
A suspect who had allegedly just gunned down a person in Newark was arrested Tuesday afternoon following a shootout with police, investigators said.
Officers in the area of 433 4th Avenue heard gunshots and rushed to the scene, according to a release from the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office. As they attempted to arrest the alleged gunman, shots were exchanged between the officers and the suspect, the office said. No one was injured in the shootout.
After making an arrest, a shooting victim was discovered and pronounced dead at the scene, officials said.The incident is still under investigation.
