Mayor Bruce Harrell was on hand for the groundbreaking ceremony and noted the facility would be the first in the United States specifically dedicated to professional women athletes.
Theresa Robinson, KIRO 7 NewsSEATTLE — A brand-new facility for the Seattle Storm is now being built in the city’s Interbay neighborhood.
Storm legend Sue Bird may be retired, but she said she was thrilled to participate in the celebration and see the support from the community. Currently, the franchise is split among three different buildings. The players use the courts at Seattle Pacific University, and their offices are divided between property in Interbay and the Seattle Center.
