The Dark Knight trilogy tells a complete story for Christian Bale's Batman, but he also spends relatively little time as the Caped Crusader.
Christian Bale's Batman in The Dark Knight trilogy did not serve as the Caped Crusader for that long. The story of Bale's Bruce Wayne first began in 2005's Batman Begins, in which director Christopher Nolan sought to bring a grounded sense of realism to Batman's story. After successfully restarting the Batman franchise on cinema screens, Batman Begins was followed by The Dark Knight and The Dark Knight Rises, the two respectively releasing in 2008 and 2012.
Bale's Bruce Wayne Only Protected Gotham As Batman For Around 12 To 18 Months The Dark Knight trilogy does not give an exact timeline for how long Bruce Wayne was Batman. However, clues like the status of Wayne Manor in The Dark Knight suggest he was Batman for a year to a year and a half. In Batman Begins, Ra's Al Ghul and the League of Shadows burn down Wayne Manor, while in The Dark Knight, Bruce is living in his Gotham City penthouse as Wayne Manor is being rebuilt.
When The Dark Knight Rises picks up the story eight years later, Bruce has been retired as Batman ever since taking the fall for the murders of Harvey Dent , with the arrival of Bane and the League of Shadows leading him to don the cowl again. The Dark Knight Rises itself also takes place over roughly a five-month period.
