Negasi Zuberi, 31, received a life sentence for kidnapping and holding a woman captive in his Oregon home. Zuberi, who impersonated an undercover police officer, used a stun gun to subdue the victim before driving her to his residence and locking her in a cell.

Negasi Zuberi, 31, was sentenced to life in prison in federal court Friday. Investigators say Zuberi, posing as an undercover police officer, kidnapped a woman in Seattle in July 2023. He restrained her with handcuffs and leg irons at the point of a stun gun and drove her to his home in Klamath Falls, Oregon . According to court documents, Zuberi covered the woman's head with a sweatshirt before removing her from the car and forcing her into his residence.

Investigators say he locked the woman in a cinder block cell, but she managed to escape by breaking open the cell's metal door by pounding on it with her hands until they were bloody. She then took a handgun from Zuberi's car, which was parked in the garage, and flagged down a passing motorist, who called 911. In October of last year, a federal jury found Zuberi guilty in both cases. 'There is no place in civil society for this type of terrifying violence,' said Natalie Wight, U.S. Attorney for the District of Oregon. 'I sincerely hope Zuberi's life sentence will bring some measure of comfort to his victims. Their courage and perseverance are an inspiration to us all.
