HBO’s new Harry Potter series has not even premiered yet, but the network is already thinking well beyond Harry’s first trip to Hogwarts. That is not exactly shocking for a franchise this big, but it is still a telling update all the same.
Between the scale of the production and the young age of its central cast, this was always going to be a show that needed careful planning from the start. Now, HBO has made it clear that work on the next chapter is already underway. Speaking to The Times of London, HBO boss Casey Bloys said the network is already developing Season 2 of the upcoming Harry Potter series. “Our goal is to not have a huge gap, you know, especially because the kids are growing,” Bloys said. “It’s not going to be an annual; the show is too big and too massive. But … they’re writing the season two now.” Behind the scenes, the series is written and executive produced by Francesca Gardiner, with Mark Mylod executive producing and directing multiple episodes. Rowling, Neil Blair, Ruth Kenley-Letts, and David Heyman are also attached as executive producers.
