Pete Carroll's recent decision to retain Patrick Graham as the Las Vegas Raiders' defensive coordinator echoes a similar move he made when he first joined the Seattle Seahawks. This development has implications for the Seahawks as they are connected to Scott, a former assistant coach under Carroll.
When Pete Carroll was hired by the Seattle Seahawks as head coach in 2010, he retained Gus Bradley as his defensive coordinator. Now that he’s with the Las Vegas Raiders, history is repeating itself. Instead of hiring a familiar name in an external search, Carroll has opted to keep Raiders DC Patrick Graham in his current position. This is relevant news to the Seattle Seahawks if only because the Raiders interviewed secondary coach/pass game coordinator Karl Scott for the job.
Scott was the only assistant coach retained by Mike Macdonald after Carroll was let go by Seattle. Graham was interviewed by the Seahawks last year as a head coach candidate, and his New York Giants defense famously flummoxed the Seahawks in that dreadful 17-12 home loss back in 2020. Graham’s contract renewal doesn’t mean Scott is definitely staying in Seattle; the New Orleans Saints still haven’t even hired a head coach, while the Jacksonville Jaguars haven’t yet decided on whether or not Ryan Nielsen will be retained under new head coach Liam Coen. Ultimately, the odds look favorable for Scott to remain on the Seahawks staff
