The Seahawks are looking at Outten as a possible replacement for Klint Kubiak, while Kubiak presumably eyed Outten for a spot on the Raiders staff.
It remains to be seen how much of the existing Seattle Seahawks coaching staff will join former offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak’s Las Vegas Raiders staff, but for now it looks like we can rule out one key assistant.
ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler reports that run game specialist and assistant offensive line coach Justin Outten, one of four Seahawks expected to be in the mix to replace Kubiak as OC, was requested for an interview by the Raiders. The Seahawks, however, hit the block button. Teams can block interview requests if the move is lateral/not a promotion, which is what this was. Outten, quarterbacks coach Andrew Janocko, passing game coordinator Jake Peetz, and tight ends coach Mack Brown are the four internal offensive coordinator candidates for the Seahawks. He has prior working relationship with Kubiak when he was offensive coordinator for the Denver Broncos in 2022, while Kubiak served as quarterbacks coach. On the OC front: It’s worth noting that Kubiak would most likely be the play-caller as Raiders head coach, whereas anyone who gets the Seattle position will be the play-caller. A decision on the Seahawks’ next offensive coordinator is likely to be made in a matter of days.
