Matthew Lillard Red Carpet picture
Matthew Lillard is one of the most prolific horror stars in the world, with multiple franchises like Scream and Five Nights at Freddy’s under his belt. Earlier this year, news broke that Lillard was attached to star in Carrie, the TV series inspired by Stephen King’s novel of the same name.
Mike Flanagan, famed for his work on Doctor Sleep and The Life of Chuck, is developing the show, but updates have been quiet since earlier this month when Flanagan confirmed that filming had wrapped. Now, Lillard is here to deliver a promising update that confirms the show is making progress. Lillard recently sat down with TotalFilm to chat about his new project, Five Nights at Freddy’s 2, and he was asked if he had anything new to share about Carrie. “Carrie’s brilliant,” he said out of the gate. Continuing, “Mike Flanagan — who I just worked with on Life of Chuck — he is just the single greatest force of nature in this industry. We rehearsed for three weeks. He had plotted out every shot in the entire film. He had it down to the minute in terms of the amount of time he would take to shoot. He developed an app so you could see where they were in shooting. I mean, he’s so prolific and profound and such a great storyteller, that’s the first thing.” Lillard also praised the cast of Carrie, which includes Prey breakout Amber Midthunder among other stars. “The second thing is the cast is incredible. It’s three different sort of sections. It’s the story Carrie written by Stephen King. It’s really a pure adaptation of the book than the original movie was. The De Palma film is really about sort of one aspect, but there’s a lot that happens in the book that’s been introduced to the show. And then there’s three different tiers — the teachers and the parents, and the students. The teachers and the parents are kind of varsity-level of actors, you know, old… And then the kids… the kids are freaking brilliant.” When Is Stephen King’s Carrie Series Coming Out? While Carrie does not yet have an official release date, the show is confirmed to debut sometime next year. Before signing off, Lillard even provided an update on where he left things when he last worked on Carrie: “We saw the first three episodes cut before we even left Vancouver, Mike had already finished and picture-locked the first three episodes, which was remarkable. But the show’s great. It’s really fantastic. The only thing that sucks is you have to wait a year to see it, because it’s so good.” In the meantime, fans can see Matthew Lillard reprising his role as Stu Macher in Scream 7, and he’ll also appear in the aforementioned Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 and even Season 2 of Daredevil: Born Again.
