BBC Radio 2 breakfast host Scott Mills has been sacked over allegations relating to his personal conduct

BBC Radio 2 breakfast presenter Scott Mills has left listeners reeling after it emerged that he has departed from the BBC following allegations concerning his personal conduct. The DJ was suddenly removed from the airwaves last week.

Seasoned broadcaster Gary Davies stepped in from Wednesday but made no mention of Mills' exit. When Davies unexpectedly took over the breakfast programme on Wednesday, he offered no explanation for Mills' absence, simply telling listeners: "Morning, Gary in for Scott." This follows Mills' final broadcast on Tuesday , during which he joked about waxing his legs and performing Stars In Their Eyes alongside fellow Radio 2 host Vernon Kay, before signing off with: "See you tomorrow." On Monday , his departure was confirmed. The Mirror, which first reported the story, now understands the allegation against Mills concerns a historic relationship from over a decade ago. A BBC spokesperson stated: "While we do not comment on matters relating to individuals we can confirm Scott Mills is no longer contracted and has left the BBC." Mills' departure led Monday's midday bulletin on his former station BBC Radio 2. At the beginning of his own Radio 2 programme, Jeremy Vine admitted he was "taken aback" by the revelation, saying: "Obviously, I was taken aback by that opening story to the news. "I had not heard anything about it until 17 minutes ago, when it was on the BBC website and I only had the information that was given to you in the bulletin, I have nothing more, that it was allegations about Scott Mills' personal conduct, which have led to him being sacked. I have no more than that. All right, on to today's show." In a separate communication to staff members, Lorna Clarke, director of music, stated: "I wanted to personally let you know that Scott Mills has left the breakfast show, and the BBC. I know that this news will be sudden and unexpected and therefore must come as a shock. Not least as so many of us have worked with Scott over a great many years, across a broad range of our programmes on R1, 5Live, R2 and TV. I felt it was important to share this news with you at the earliest opportunity. "Of course, it will also come as a shock to our audience and loyal breakfast show listeners too. I will update everyone with more information on plans for the show when I'm able to. While I appreciate many of you will have questions, I hope you can understand that I am not going to be saying anything further now." Mills, 53, hailing from Southampton, assumed control of the breakfast programme from Zoe Ball last year. February's latest Rajar statistics revealed Mills attracted an average weekly listenership of 6.47 million during the October-December 2025 period, a rise from 6.16 million in the preceding quarter and marking his strongest performance since inheriting the Radio 2 breakfast slot. The annual report published in July 2025 disclosed his earnings fell within the £355,000 to £359,999 bracket annually. His BBC journey commenced at Radio 1 during the late 1990s hosting early breakfast, subsequently progressing to weekend programming and later an early evening slot while covering Sara Cox's maternity leave. Following Cox's decision not to return, the show was rebranded as The Scott Mills Show. In 2022, he transferred to Radio 2, succeeding Steve Wright in the weekday afternoon position. He has fronted various programmes on the station prior to accepting the Breakfast Show following Ball's exit. Mills has additionally hosted a weekend programme on Radio 5 Live and participated in series 12 of Strictly Come Dancing, partnered with professional dancer Joanne Clifton, finishing as the fifth couple eliminated.
