Alan Burns, 59, was arrested amid a police probe into a South African website linked to child exploitation.

A teacher who admitted a 'fetish' for watching children perform fireman's lifts has won a bid to clear his name after a police investigation was ruled unfair.

He told officers he liked to watch youngsters perform the fireman's lift which sees a person placed over the shoulder of their carrier. Burns told police: "I have had this fetish for a number of years and that is the sole reason I have these videos and pictures." He was convicted of committing a breach of the peace by taking and keeping photos of children for his own sexual gratification between 2013 and 2021 as well as a charge under the Data Protection Act. Sheriff Louise Gallacher spared him jail earlier this year and ordered him to carry out 160 hours unpaid work as well as supervision for three years.

Police had been refused a search warrant for his then home in Stonehouse, Lanarkshire, but continued to visit him and he freely handed over an iPad and a laptop while insisting there was nothing indecent on them. The Sheriff Appeal Court has now quashed his conviction and said officers crossed into 'unfairness' with their approach.
