Greens senator Sarah Hanson-Young interrupted a doorstop interview with Nationals leader David Littleproud who was defending Peter Dutton's comments on refugees fleeing Gaza.

National Party leader David Littleproud was talking to media in the press gallery corridor of Parliament House on Thursday, defending the Coalition’s proposed ban on Palestinian refugees, when Greens Senator Sarah Hanson-Young passed by: "Why don’t you say something about the children that are being slaughtered?" she said without stopping. Cameras caught her drive-by comments.

Since the October 7 attacks by Hamas the government has rejected 7,111 visa applications from Palestinians and granted 2,922, as of 12 August. About 1,300 of those with approved visas have resettled in Australia. Prime Minister Anthony Albanese said Dutton's comments sought "to divide" and that the federal government took advice from Burgess and intelligence agencies.
